In short
No account, no ads, no tracking, no analytics tools. Your songs, notes and recordings stay on your iPhone. Only when you use rhyme search, rhyme suggestions or AI ideas, buy AI ideas, restore purchases or when RAIM checks your AI idea balance (in Settings, when you tap “KI-Idee”, in the AI panel and the AI packs; only Apple's purchase receipts are sent for this), what is needed for that is sent, encrypted, to our server in Germany. We do not store search words or song lines there permanently – except word pairs from “Passt nicht” (see below). For AI ideas, up to 24 lines of your song are passed on to Anthropic (USA) – only if you are 18 or older and only after you have explicitly agreed in the app. We do not sell any data.
What data, how and why – at a glance
- Search word or the word before the cursor: when you search for rhymes or write with rhyme suggestions; to find rhymes; not stored permanently.
- Up to 24 song lines and your choice: when you request an AI idea, only with your consent; so that Claude (Anthropic) can write the idea; not stored permanently by us, deleted by Anthropic within 30 days (exceptions: see Retention).
- Word pairs from “Passt nicht” (doesn't fit): when you swipe a rhyme away; to improve rhyme search; stored without any link to you and with no fixed time limit.
- Apple's purchase receipts: with AI ideas, when your balance is fetched (Settings, tapping “KI-Idee”, AI panel, AI packs) and when you restore purchases; to count AI ideas and keep your purchases; only hash values, counters and dates are stored.
- IP address: technically, with every connection to our server; for a working, secure connection; not in our operational logs, technical error logs for at most 7 days.
- Your email: when you write to us; to reply to you; until your request is resolved.
- YouTube beats and dictation: here, data goes directly to Google or Apple (see below).
We use none of this for advertising, tracking or profiling.
On your iPhone
RAIM stores songs, notes, beats, recordings and settings only on your device. We have no access to them. If your iPhone's iCloud Backup is on, Apple backs up this data too.
Our server
Rhyme search, rhyme suggestions and AI ideas run through our server (api.raimapp.de). It is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH in Falkenstein, Germany, which operates it on our behalf (data processing agreement). Every connection technically involves your IP address. Our operational log records only technical details of each request such as time, path, status and duration – no IP addresses, no search words, no song lines. Search words and song lines are held only in the server's memory – including caches, until they are overwritten or the server restarts – never in files or databases (except word pairs from “Passt nicht”, see below). Short technical error logs (for example, when a connection drops) are deleted after 7 days at the latest; they may contain an IP address. In backups of the server they may remain for up to 14 days. Purpose: a secure, working server. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Rhyme search and rhyme suggestions
The word you search for is sent to our server, which sends back the rhymes. With rhyme suggestions, the word before the cursor is sent there in the same way while you write; you can turn rhyme suggestions off in Settings. The word is not stored permanently. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (you are using a feature of the app).
“Passt nicht” feedback
When you swipe a rhyme away, the word pair (search word and rhyme) is sent to our server. We store it without any link to you – without IP address and without any identifier – and use it to improve rhyme search. We store the search word, the rhyme and the time (to the minute), with no fixed time limit. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (better rhymes for everyone). Afterwards, the word pairs can no longer be linked to anyone.
AI ideas (Claude by Anthropic)
Only if you are 18 or older and only after you have explicitly agreed in the app. Before that, no song line is sent to our server or to Anthropic. The consent screen appears before your first AI idea – the first time you tap “KI-Idee” (AI idea) or, if you do not have any AI ideas yet, right after you buy RAIM Pro – and summarises this section: what is sent, to whom, why and what happens to it.
What data: up to 24 lines of the open song – the line you are on and the lines before it, without ad-libs in brackets – and your choice (2 or 4 lines, “Neu” (new) or “Endreim” (end rhyme), the rhyme word). Not included: other songs, notes, recordings, beats, your name, email address or contacts.
How: When you tap “KI-Idee”, RAIM sends this data, encrypted, to our server. The server passes the lines and your choice on to Anthropic, PBC (San Francisco, USA), together with an automatic analysis of these lines (e.g. detected genre, themes and rhymes). Claude, Anthropic's AI, writes the idea from this; our server sends it back to you. In “Endreim” (end rhyme) mode, our server detects the rhyme word from the same lines beforehand – as soon as the options are open, and again when you edit that line; this stays on our server.
Why: solely to write the AI idea for you. Not for advertising, tracking, profiling or training any AI.
Retention: our server does not store your lines permanently – not in files, databases or logs; they are held only in memory, including caches, until they are overwritten or the server restarts. Anthropic processes them on our behalf, does not use them for training and deletes them within 30 days – unless they violate Anthropic's usage policy or the law requires longer retention; in that case Anthropic may keep them longer.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). The transfer to the USA is covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, which are part of our contract with Anthropic (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). US law still applies in the USA, and US authorities may be able to access data in some circumstances.
You can withdraw your consent at any time: in Settings under “KI-Zustimmung widerrufen” (withdraw AI consent). After that, no new request is sent to Anthropic until you agree again; an AI idea already running when you withdraw is still finished by our server. If you turn AI ideas off in Settings, no new request is sent there either. Processing before the withdrawal remains lawful.
Counting AI ideas and keeping purchases
So that we can count AI ideas fairly and purchased AI ideas are kept after a reinstall or on a new iPhone, RAIM sends Apple's signed purchase receipts with AI requests and when it fetches your balance (in Settings, when you tap “KI-Idee”, in the AI panel, the AI packs and when you restore purchases): the receipt for the app and, if you have one, the receipt for your current subscription – after buying a pack, also the receipt for that purchase. They contain, among other things, an identifier that Apple assigns per Apple Account and app, the product, purchase date, term, transaction numbers, App Store country, price and an obscured device identifier. Our server checks Apple's signature. It stores only the identifier from the app receipt (for the free trial week: from your subscription) as a hash value, plus only this: free ideas used, trial-week ideas, ideas in the current calendar month and on the day of your last AI idea (with month and date), your balance from packs, the pack purchases already credited (also as hash values, with number of ideas and time of crediting) and the date of the last change. For the daily limit, the server also counts today's requests under a further, shortened hash value; it deletes this count at the latest with the first AI request on a later day. We never receive your name, email address or Apple Account sign-in details.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (your purchase and the agreed AI ideas). We keep the counters as long as they are needed – since purchased AI ideas do not expire, this can be a long time. To protect against data loss, we may also back them up; such backups stay in Germany and are deleted after 14 days at the latest. We delete the counters on request; they disappear from any backups within 14 days at the latest. Any unused purchased AI ideas can then no longer be assigned to you.
Purchases
You buy subscriptions and AI idea packs from Apple. Apple handles payment and is itself responsible for it; we never see payment data. RAIM checks on your iPhone, using Apple's purchase confirmation, whether you have Pro. Apple's Privacy Policy applies.
YouTube beats
For YouTube beats, RAIM uses the YouTube API Services of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. When you add a YouTube link, RAIM loads the title and thumbnail from YouTube; when you play it, RAIM loads the YouTube player. Google receives your IP address, which video you play and technical information about your device. In the player, Google may store and read cookies or similar technologies on your iPhone and show ads. Google is responsible for what it does with this data; Google may also transfer it to the USA (Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework). RAIM itself stores only the link and title on your iPhone. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (you want to play the video in RAIM). Google's Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service apply.
Microphone and dictation
Recordings stay on your iPhone. Dictation uses Apple's speech recognition: where your iPhone supports it, it runs on the device. Otherwise the audio is sent to Apple to be converted to text; Apple's Privacy Policy applies. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (you want to dictate). You can turn dictation off in Settings.
Crash reports from Apple
If you have turned on sharing with app developers in iOS Settings under “Privacy & Security” > “Analytics & Improvements”, Apple gives us crash reports and usage statistics without any link to you. You can turn this off there at any time.
When you write to us
If you email us, we use your address and your message only to reply to you. Our mailbox is operated on our behalf by IONOS SE (Montabaur, Germany). We delete the emails once your request is resolved – unless tax or commercial law requires us to keep them longer. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR if it concerns your purchase or your use of RAIM, otherwise (f) (we want to reply to you).
Recipients and equal protection
Your data goes only to the recipients named here, and only as far as described above:
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany): operates our server and the website.
- IONOS SE (Germany): operates our email mailbox.
- Anthropic, PBC (USA): writes the AI ideas, only with your consent.
All three process the data on our behalf. A data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR) obliges them to process the data only on our instructions and only for the purposes named here, and to protect it at least to the same standard as this policy describes. For Anthropic, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses also apply.
Apple (purchases, dictation, crash reports) and Google (YouTube beats) are responsible for their own processing. As controllers in the EU (Apple Distribution International Ltd. and Google Ireland Limited, both Ireland), they are themselves bound by the GDPR and therefore obliged to provide equal protection. We do not sell data and do not share it for advertising.
This website
raimapp.de consists only of static pages. They are hosted on our server at Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany, which operates it on our behalf. When you open a page, the server technically processes your IP address and your browser's details in order to send you the page. We keep no access logs, set no cookies and use no tracking, no third-party fonts and no third-party scripts. Error logs are handled as described above for the server. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (we want to show you the page).
Do you have to provide data?
No. Without a connection to our server, however, rhyme search, rhyme suggestions and AI ideas do not work. We do not make automated decisions about you (Art. 22 GDPR).
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability (Art. 15 to 20 GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). Write to us at info@raimapp.de. Because we have no accounts and no names, we will agree with you by email on how to find your data.
Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: error logs, “Passt nicht” feedback, emails), you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then stop processing it unless we have compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, or need it for legal claims. An email to info@raimapp.de is enough.
Complaints
You can lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany, lfd.niedersachsen.de.
